Terrible

A few months ago, I read about a law that a terrible person signed in a state that wasn't mine.

I thought, "Thank the Lord he isn't my governor."

Then, he became the Republican Vice Presidential candidate.

In March, Mike Pence signed law mandating that the remains of any aborted or miscarried fetus must be interred or cremated.

This law also prohibits abortion because of fetal abnormality. Any doctor "caught" performing an abortion basically for any reason would be held liable for "wrongful death".

For my whole life, I have been firmly pro-choice. So firmly in fact that I've marched in D.C, held rallies, almost been arrested, and made posters (so many posters).

But this year has reaffirmed my stance and position.

Get out of my uterus.

I am lucky enough to have an excellent OB/GYN. He is fantastic. He made me feel comfortable, answered all of our questions (however ridiculous they may be), and made me feel like, even though I had no control over what was physically happening to me, I had complete control over my decisions.

He's the only one I want giving me advice and telling me my options. I don't want a politician whispering in his ear that my decisions were wrong or shaming me into doing something I don't want to.

I don't want anyone second guessing my motivations.

I don't want to have to pay for a "funeral" for the fetal remains extracted from my uterus after a miscarriage.

I don't want to and I shouldn't have to.

If you're trying to punish me because my body isn't behaving the way it should (as a baby incubator), then good job. You've succeeded.

You've made a situation that is a personal tragedy into a legal tragedy. You're hiding behind a "moral" code and trying to systematically strip me of my rights.

I've spent many nights wrestling with God about our miscarriages and I think I'm finally at a good place. Our family planning is between myself, my husband, and our God. Nowhere in that sentence is there room for Mike Pence.

Thankfully, this terrible law was blocked by federal judge and hasn't been enacted.

But guys, Mike Pence isn't the only problem. There are tons of people trying to strip our rights away from us under the guise of "moral responsibility" while ignoring their blatant hypocrisy.

Hypocrites pretending to care about women and children while turning a blind eye to maternal mortality rates, poverty, unequal educational standards, an unlivable minimum wage rate....etc.

But I guess who cares as long as all the babies are born and women are punished if they don't do their jobs and carry all pregnancies to term.

Just a reminder though, Mike Pence is terrible and so is his running mate.
